For my lesson I would use Skype....
1. to talk with a school in a Southern state and have the students learn the cultural differences now and then.
2. To talk with a National Park Service worker at one of the Civil War forts. The students can then ask questions and maybe go on a vertual tour.
3. to have a Civil War expert Skype in and talk to the students so they would not only have to hear me talk
